Honors Saturday Scholars Lecture

The Saturday Scholars lecture series is designed to showcase the breadth and depth of Honors interdisciplinary seminars. Join us during Family Weekend on Saturday, October 9 from 11:00-11:45 a.m. in Festival’s Allegheny Room as Honors faculty member Amelia Underwood presents a sample Honors seminar! Since 2010, Underwood has taught classes in the Department of Military Science (Army ROTC) and the Honors College. While on active duty in the United States Army, Underwood served as a Field Artillery Officer assigned to nuclear capable Lance Missile battalions. Her academic interests include leadership, gender and 20th century American military history. Underwood remains very involved and passionate about issues concerning women in the military. She serves as a mentor and role model for the female Army ROTC cadets, is the founder and chair of the JMU Women’s Military Forum, and serves on the JMU President’s Task Force for Veteran’s Affairs.
